LEADERSHIP TIP
Sheeba, nothing is ever mentioned in passing.
While you are leading the helm, at some point one of your team members will casually mention concerns, but they don't want to be the bearer of bad news so they may just “pass on information”.
Later when what was mentioned turns into a valid concern, someone will inevitably say that they had mentioned it to you prior.
You cannot chase every rabbit, but it is important for you to keep your finger on the pulse of your team.
Here are some ways to stay in the know without micromanaging:
- Hold a small private meeting to encourage open communication.
- Offer opportunities to explore possibilities, which may allow team members to feel like they have more options.
- Form a small focus group to look into what's not being said, or
- Have a team meeting and just put it all out in the open.
This will show that you are involved and interested in nurturing your team. If you are looking to understand your communication style or ways to communicate more effectively with your team, then the Tilt Profile Assessment is just what you need.
COACHING TIP
Why is it important to work with a Mentor Coach?
Are you renewing your application for ACC or PCC credentialing with ICF? If so, I am offering an eight week group mentoring program that allows you to learn and grow in your skills, confidence and competence as a coach. I have found that when you are in the presence of other coaches, you will learn so much that you can take away and use as a practitioner in the coaching profession. This course begins September 11th. Registration begins now for this course.
Some coaches wait until the last minute to complete this requirement. However, the mentoring process is to be completed over a 3-month process.
If you would like to get some continuing education credits instead, well this is also an option for you. So, come and join me for this time together!
