Hello Sheeba!

Thank you for all the lovely messages, texts, and emails that were shared by those who visited my updated website. I so appreciate you taking the time to do that.

September was a busy month for me with many speaking engagements. My last one that I just did was with my networking group and I spoke about the elements of sustainable and dynamic networking groups/teams.

When I use the word groups or teams, I try not to think of it in its traditional sense. Teams to me are families, students in a classroom, athletes on a field, your direct reports, etc. Do you see what I mean? Broaden the way in how you see a team. Keep that in mind as you read the rest of this newsletter.

Inspiring You to Thrive,

LEADERSHIP

Leaders often feel as though their teams are too dependent upon them.  This can be draining and tiresome. The best defense against this is to build and develop your team.

So, how does a strong leader do this?

First of all, always remember that your team is made up of individuals. It can be easy to think of your team as a unified body with a single goal, but each person has unique skills and strengths that they bring to the table. You want to empower each member of your team to feel qualified to achieve the common goal based around their specific talents. Try to help people realize their inner potential and affirm their strengths. When everyone feels motivated and empowered to contribute, it boosts the morale and aptitude of the entire team, and helps everyone want to work better together for the benefit of the whole organization.

Ensuring that your staff feels heard can be invaluable. The simple act of listening with undivided focus can make the members of your team feel valued and supported.  If they know that you truly listen when they offer input, they will be far more apt to stay excited and involved.

In addition, when leading a team, it is important to be transparent in your expectations and clear in your directions in order to demonstrate trustworthiness. A good leader will cultivate that trust by delegating and continually developing others around them.  That can go a long way toward inspiring a motivated and thriving team! So how are you doing?

COACHING

 FORBES COACHES COUNCIL

I was recently selected to be a part of a panel of Professional Coaches as a contributor for Forbes Magazine.  The most recent article was on How to Help Your Senior-Level Employees Transition Into Leadership Roles:

"No matter what your organization's current structure looks like, it's wise for top-level leaders to always be thinking about the next generation of managers. Whether you're grooming someone to replace an executive after they retire or simply helping employees take their next career step, you need to have a plan in place for helping those individuals grow as leaders.

Leadership development can be especially critical when you have a senior employee stepping into their first management role. The skills and attributes that made them excellent individual contributors are not necessarily the same things that will help them as managers, and it's up to you to help them make the appropriate shift in mindset and approach..."
